You guys should try reading the owners manual:
From 2005 PT Cruiser Service manual: CAUTION! Mixing of coolants other than specified HOAT engine coolants, may result in engine damage and may decrease corrosion protection. If a non-HOAT coolant is introduced into the cooling system in an emergency, it should be replaced with the specified coolant as soon as possible. Do not use plain water alone or alcohol base engine coolant (antifreeze) products. Do not use additional rust inhibitors or antirust products, as they may not be compatible with the radiator engine coolant and may plug the radiator. This vehicle has not been designed for use with Propylene Glycol based coolants. Use of Propylene Glycol based coolants is not recommended. Adding Coolant Your vehicle has been built with an improved engine coolant that allows extended maintenance intervals. This coolant can be used up to 5 Years or 100,000 miles before replacement. To prevent reducing this extended maintenance period, it is important that you use the same coolant throughout the life of your vehicle. Please review these recommendations for using Hybrid Organic Additive Technology (HOAT) coolant. When adding coolant, a minimum solution of 50% recommended Mopar Antifreeze/ Coolant 5 Year/100,000 Mile Formula HOAT (Hybrid Organic Additive Technology), or equivalent, in water should be used. Use higher concentrations (not to exceed 70%) if temperatures below 34°F (37°C ) are anticipated. Use only high purity water such as distilled or deionized water when mixing the water/engine coolant solution. The use of lower quality water will reduce the amount of corrosion protection in the engine cooling system. Please note that it is the owner’s responsibility to maintain the proper level of protection against freezing according to the temperatures occurring in the area where the vehicle is operated. NOTE: Mixing coolant types will decrease the life of the engine coolant and will require more frequent coolant changes. |

DexCool meets DaimlerChrysler MS-7170, MS-9769 requirements.

Like I said - the whole issue is protection of the aluminum parts - DexCool does that wether your rig says PT Criuser on the hood or GMC. ![]() Last edited by lmmegt; 10 Sep 2009 at 07:46 am. |

Why use something from GM which is biggest crap antifreeze on the market in a Chrysler when you can either buy Mopar Orange or the HOAT G5 ???
I would avoid any antifreeze which is Universal and run the correct stuff to avoid all the grief. Draft—DEX-COOL 2007, Part 1: Revising A Less-Than-Accurate Report Last edited by VNT; 10 Sep 2009 at 10:36 am. Reason: add link |

Current formulation DexCool works fine for all vehicles. And it's what I have on hand so I use it.
They are both excellent products in their current formulations. Would I run D/C HOAT if I had it on hand in my GM? Probably not since my 2008 Duramax truck is worth a bit more than the out-of warranty 2004 PT. Although I am sure the D/C HOAT would work in place of DexCool.

I used the Zerex G5 ... I was told by the dealership if you flushed it all out, you could use dexcool, sorry if I mispelled.. I do not have much faith in them as they can not tell me what is wrong with my AC not cooling...AGAIN.... I would go with Zerex G5, only $10 at NAPA..

Wonder if Dex-Cool was reformulated after GM agreed to settle?

The lawsuits were filed on behalf of owners of General Motors vehicles, which were factory-filled with "Dex-Cool" coolant. In summary, the lawsuits alleged that Dex-Cool degraded certain vehicles’ intake manifold gaskets and other engine sealability components, and that in certain other vehicles, Dex-Cool formed a rusty sludge, clogging the vehicles’ cooling systems and causing vehicles to overheat. Fascinating. The radiator in my 01 was clogged with rusty sludge. But according to IMMEGT, I am obviously wrong. I stand corrected.
