Default 2002 PT Chugging at 2000 rpm

Hi, Everyone.

I have a stock '02 PT with 140,000 on it. At around 2000 rpm at highway speed I've noticed that it kind of chugs. Never drops in speed or anything, just chugs. If I step on the pedal and increase the speed or let off the gas it goes away. Anyone ever have this problem or know what it might be?

You are my 4,000 post, anyway first thing we ask, when were the plugs and wires changed last? Without knowing anything about your PT other than it is a 2002 and mileage, you haven't given much to go on. Has the timing belt been changed?

Congrats on your milestone and sorry for the lack of info! Timing belt, accessory belts & water pump were just changed. Probably 50,000 miles or so since the plugs and wires were changed.

How about at non-highway speeds, say if you limit to 3rd and go 45?

Trying to distinguish between an out of balance wheel or rotor, and something rotating on the motor or tranny.

What kind of plugs & wires? Platinum Plugs, Performance Wires, gapped at .040?

Bob- No chugging at lowers speeds and it's definitely not front end related; ie: warped rotors, etc.

Hooligan- Bosch platinum plugs, Chrysler wires

It's odd because it's only noticeable when your at highway speed. Really present when your coasting and accelerate on the highway.

Stock Chrysler wires have a tendency to break down and create problems. Most owners have went to performance wires and have mentioned the OEM wires are "crap". Not saying this is your problem, but it is a area to check.

Ok, that's where I'll start. Any recommendations for wires and plugs?

Almost any Platinum plug will work, I have used Champion and Autolite, gapped at .040. I have used MOPAR wires and now have Cranes, Cranes are longer available. You will see others posts other choices.
