I bought my 2007 pt a little over two months ago and i have noticed the same thing. It seems like is does it when slowing down and when it downshifts from 3rd to 2nd,so maybe mine needs the flash as well.

How many people have had the flash done, and it actually worked? I have had the same thing happen (coming to a stop, and shifting hard from second to first) since the day I bought it with 73,000 miles on it. I heard that this is normal. Can it cause harm to the transmission. How much does a flash cost?

This is NOT common, when I had the flash done it was no charge at the dealership.

EDJ8,
What you are looking for is a service bulletin, not a recall.
Having said that, I'm pretty sure that there are two service bulletins. One for turbo car and one for non (naturally asperated) car. And the dealer can find those easily.

Count me in with the crowd experiencing rough/hard part throttle downshifts -- I have a 2008 2.4 turbo (22k miles) which exhibits the same behavior. It's been to two different dealers for this problem:

The first dealer applied the TCM "relearn" process but apparently did not actually update the code in the TCM. No discernible improvement.

The second dealer claims that the problem was/is caused by a dirty throttle body, which of course can be rectified by a $190 "Fuel injection/induction system cleaning service". Thanks, but I think I'll go ahead and try a bottle of Seafoam and shoot the TB with Deep Creep myself. I opened up the TB and it looked pretty clean but hit it with the cleaner anyway. No improvement noted.

If there is a TSB for this problem, does anyone have the number? The dealers around here need some extra education, sometimes.

I have the bump issue in my 08.

I get a hard downshift 2-1, but I also get an odd feeling upshift 1 - 2. It almost feels like a hesitation.
Anyway, They are going to flash it tomorrow, I hope this cures it.

Edit,

I just got the TSB 21-008-08 FlashePCM and TCM done, and it worked, now the downshift is so smooth I can not even feel it.
Question, is there a different flash on the upshifting? This one feels weird compared to my other earlier PT's. It is not as smooth and more defined.

Angry Re: My PT downshifting hard!

Well, I took my '08 to the stealer last week to have them relook the bump shift, along with some other routine maintenance. I specifically mentioned the TSB CREWZIN linked. They claim that TSB doesn't apply to my particular vehicle, and that they couldn't really duplicate the problem anyway.

In other words, "they all do that, get used to it, we don't wanna bother with the service". Very frustrating, now the boss wants to trade it in

I love my Mopars, but I can't stand dealing with the stealers -- *especially* the "Five Star" ones.

The dealer I went to (where I bought the car) had not even heard of the update or so they service manager said. I insisted it was a problem and he agreed to check it out.

When I picked the car up he was fairly polite and they did the flash as requested. Covered it under the warranty.

Try a different dealer if that one is uncooperative.

BTW, on mine, the downsift bump was not especially harsh and it was coast down speed critical.
