Default interference engine???????

Is the 2002 PT cruiser (Non-Turbo) an interference or not??? I seem to be getting conflicting answers on the net about this question and it seems pretty straight forward to me.

All PT's are Non-Interference engines. If the timing belt breaks, the valves won't hit the top of the pistons but the valves can hit each other. 9 out of 10 cases there's no internal damage when the belt goes.

As crewzin puts - it's not.

The valves will never strike the pistons, but whether they hit each other depends on a lot of different things. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to why one time when the belt breaks they hit each other, and other times they don't.

My wife's broke within 100feet after taking off at a light. Engine at about 3500rpm. Valves on cylinder 1 and 3 hit each other and bent (1 exhaust, 2 intake on 1, 1 exhaust 1 intake on 3). The head work and valves weren't too bad on the wallet, not too shabby for a rebuilt top end, was $800 total on top of the timing belt work.

Best way to tell is with a leakdown test, but a simple compression check will tell you if the cylinder is sealing, which it would not be if the valves touched.
