Since a few weeks I can hear kinda squeaky sound from the right front wheel area, when I drive over bumps. Actually, it sounds like a duck (try to imagine that). The colder the weather, the more I can hear it. Yesterday, the other front wheel started to make the same strange sound.
It feels like the car isn't driving that smooth anymore, either. When I let go of the gas, when I approach a stop sign or something, I can hear a light grinding sound as well. Are my bearings going bad already? Or is it a matter of lubrication? Thanks! PT Cruiser 2005 79,000 miles |

Yes, most bloody likely your bearings are bad "already". We had a bearing and shaft replaced before 30K on our '05. Had Les Schwab do it which included a 4-way alignment. You could try lubing bushings also. Chassis Lubrication Points

Thanks. Do you know if replacing bearings is a costly matter?

I had my shop do both front wheel bearings last year. Cost me $312.91.

Referring to the grinding sound.. I also had a grinding sound in my front end, happened most commonly on turns. It sounded like a 70 year old mattress. Ugly ugly sound. It turned out to be the control arm bushings were beat to hell.

Thanks guys.
I was just wondering what does the sound it makes when hitting bumps in the road to do with the breaks? The breaks do make a sound, but only when I first use it. That stops after the 3rd or 4th break. I heard it was a typical PT Cruiser thing? Everything seems better when it's warm out. The colder the weather, the more sound... |

Mine were full of sounds coming from the front and the rear
They used to squeek a lot, but like you said, it got better after a few brakes. I just had the drum brakes cleaned out which got rid of all the squeeking in the rear end. There is also another sound I havent addressed yet. Almost like Im laying on the horn or something, very loud. I think the rotors just need to be machined.
