Default Need thermostat help

My thermostat is shot. It's not opening up properly for the coolant. I bought a replacement, but I am having trouble finding good instructions on how to replace it. I'm pretty sure I need to drain some coolant, and take the intake manifold off to get to where the thermostat sits, but I haven't gotten a good answer yet of exactly what that entails.

It seems like a simple enough change. The mechanic quoted me 90 minutes and 150 dollars to change a 10 dollar part, so I'd really rather get in there and do this myself.

Can someone point me in the right direction? I've been googling but a lot of the instructions have been pretty vague.

Thanks.

This is the instruction I found:
Should be located in a removable housing at the engine end of the upper radiator hose

Drain about 1 gallon of coolant from the radiator
Remove this housing
Note how thermostat is installed
Clean both surfaces
Replace thermostat and gasket
Re- fill coolant slowly to prevent an airlock
Start engine and looks for leaks
Run engine to normal operating temperture with heater on
Re-check coolant level

I had a poke around while changing the wires, and I couldn't see anything that screamed at me "thermostat housing", but I;m pretty sure I don't know what it looks like.

Styggian, welcome to the Forum, .

Do a search on overheating, on one of the posts CREWZIN (one of our resident PT gurus) has posted info on the installation of a thermostat. Also, check out a "sticky" in the performance section.
