Yup.
Open the hood, and prop it open.
Start engine, turn on the A/C.
Go look and see if fan by radiator is turning - I bet it isn't.
If I'm right, you need a new fan.

I'm having pretty much the same problem with my 2004 Base that Garrambide reports. Should the cooling fan turn on even on a cold engine, when I switch on the A/C? The TSM for 2004 and 2001 imply that the fan wouldn't turn on until the coolant temperature reaches something close to fully warmed up.

I have a 2001 Touring to compare it to, which is handy sometimes.

2001: Cold engine, A/C on, fan is on. (PO replaced fan, so it's known good.)
2004: Cold engine, A/C on, fan is not on. Fan is OEM.

Suggestions appreciated. Even "What I said, dummy" will be useful and appreciated.

YES, the fan should come on when the compressor comes on even if the engine is completely cool.

I was afraid of that. I also checked it this afternoon with a fully warm engine, and it didn't work then, either. I was afraid of that also.

So it's a new fan assembly soon. I get to exercise my tools! Any suggestions on good aftermarket brands? Or brands to stay away from? And thanks!

If it's not a turbo, your in luck. Turbo fans are hard to find. If you deal with ebay, there's loads of fans available. If not you should be able to order one from a parts store (NAPA) or online from RockAuto.com. There's no brand names to look for or stay away from. You should be able to find the fan and shroud for around $100 plus or minus.

I put a sticky on top of the Tech and Performance section on how to put a new fan in.

Not a turbo, and the part's on order. (It's usually simpler for me to mail order a part, when I don't have the time to track one down at a parts store.)

And thanks for the sticky. Doesn't look too daunting.
