Default Error Codes 301 & 1684 - Help?

So my Cruiser's been doing this thing lately where when I accelerate, it kind of stumbles and sputters. Well, I just remembered the whole error code thing and these were the two that I got.

The 301 is something along the lines of Misfire in Cylinder 1 and the 1684 (it may have been 1681) says something about the battery being disconnected in the past 50 starts.

Any ideas on what this may be? A friend of mine has suggested that the spark plugs may need changing. Not sure when the last time I checked on them was. I'm just praying that it's not the Fuel Pump or Transmission. I'm not too educated on PT Cruisers (or many vehicles for that matter). I love my car and I don't want to have to scrap it. Also, my engine light is now permanently on.

Any ideas or help? Anything would be greatly appreciated at this point.

Misfire Cylinder 1 probably sets your engine light. My suggestion would be new plugs and wires, wires anything other than stock. There is a sticky on how to do the job in the Performance section.

Agree w/Hooligan.
And gap the plugs at 0.040 - that was in a tech service bulletin.

Question Re: Error Codes 301 & 1684 - Help?

RainfirePT, did you ever get this resolved?

My PT was idling rough a few weeks ago. I replaced the spark plugs gapped to .045 (but not the cables...should probably do that too eh?). Anyway it seemed to fix the problem but in the last couple days it has idled rough a few times but not as bad as before. Then today I got a check engine light with the same 2 codes, 301 and 1684. Did replacing plugs AND cables fix your problem?
