Air Bag Light

I have a 2001 PT whose airbag light started coming on about 2 years ago. I'm wondering how many others are out there and what you've found to be the problem. I took the car to the dealership when it started happening. The first trip I was told they found a bad computer code and they reset it and the light went off. On my way home the light came back on. The next day whatever they did I no longer had air/heat/vent. The third day they said they'd have to remove the dash board and it would cost a minimum of $500.00. I was told that the airbag light would not cause me to fail Massachusetts inspection and that it was my passenger seat airbag and the chances of it deploying at the wrong time were slim. I've since passed 2 inspections. Today I learned that as of October this year an airbag light will cause a failed inspection. So now I have 2 months to get this problem resolved as cheaply as possible since I am unemployed. Any ideas?

I have found quite a number of cruiser owners who have had this same exact problem. It seems this could be a serious defect. I have filed a complaint at Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) and encourage anyone else who has had this problem to do the same. Perhaps it will help us get the service we need to resolve this mysterious shared safety problem.
