I'm having problems with my airbag light (ongoing for 3 years now). Last week I found the 2 threads here for checking codes using the key and the odometer.
When I do the "hold the odometer in and turn the key" test I get "630713" and then it says "no faults". I can't find what 630713 means. It's NOT my odometer reading (I'm at 84,000 miles). Can anyone help? PS (after removing the pass airbag and the center console we found no faulty wires. We think it's a problem with the airbag computer module and plan on replacing it this week). |

While obtaining the fault code you don't hold anything. Holding the odometer button in while turning the key only performs a test of all the dials in the guages.
Turn the key on and off 3 times within 5 seconds and at the third turn leave the key pointing towards the windshield. If you do it right, it will either say "done" or give you a fault code like the ones listed.

I did that too. I'm getting "done" on that test.
I realized the gauges were being tested but thought the lights might also be tested. I'm wondering if my light might be a bulb issue only. maybe the wire to that particular bulb is shorting? |

Yes, done means there's no codes stored in the computer and a burnt out or shorted bulb won't set the fault light. You might have to have a scanner from the dealer or mechanic dig deeper to find a fault that doesn't set off the light. There's a sticky in the Tech & Performance section that shows how to take out the guages if you want to check for a short.

The key trick only gets codes from the PCM. You will need a scan tool to get codes from the Airbag module. Either a good after market shop or a dealer.

That key trick is very tricky, pardon the pun. Today I did it again and got a code:
p 1684. In one of the other threads here it lists this code as: Driver 5 Line 4. Anyone know what that means? Does this mean my PCM is bad? Or just that the code is coming from it? I finally feel like I might be getting close to resolving the issue. I really appreciate all of your help. |

Never mind - I found another post that explained "--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
P1684 simply means the battery was disconnected within the last 50 key starts." |
