first thing i noticed was the fact you have been playing with them, eg. tailight covers, and strobes, and 3rd brake light cling on.

check you haven't shorted something out.

is this happening on those cold mornings when the car is all fogged up, covered in dew or a fine mist of water?

Bill,
Start with the brake light switch under the dash. ItÂ’s a white box on the 2002. How far do you have to move the pedal before the lights come on? If not very far, I would replace the switch. There is no adjustment for the switch after the initial installation according to the service manual. But see if the switch housing is tight against the mounting bracket. If it looks like the plunger on the switch can go in further, wrap some electrical tape or glue a shim on the tab attached to the brake pedal so it pushes the plunger in further.
I don't think what you have done to the tail lights is an issue, the power source for the brake lights is under the dash.

Good luck

Hey guys, I think I fixed the brake light problem. The switch still had appox 1/8" to 3/16" be fore it bottom out. So I bented the tab thats hits the switch. Now there is no play in the switch It is bottom out. So I will find out shorhly if this takes care of the problem. Thanks for the input....................Bill
