Do you think I should call my guy in the AM and tell him to hold off until I talk to them?

Thanks again!
YEP, call him.

I called corp and they said it had to be diagnosed by their techs for them to offer me Goodwill Assistance - I have no idea what that means, but I called because someone here mentioned the dealership changed the cam and crank shaft sensors for $100 and ate the rest due to an EPA issue or something? I have no idea - any insight?

ok,,, you mentioned 78K miles,,, what warranty was still on car?? Im not sure 2005 had 7-70K warranties? ( did they) that is why I asked miles? because I was only 2k miles over the 70K( Chrysler sometimes assists if you are close-why not try-all they can is no!( does help though if you have a track record with some dealer also That is what they mean by goodwill assist.let the dealer make the repair-but you have to be willing to live with the outcome either way,,,.good luck MJB

I don't think I have any warranty left. :/ They offered me a re-up shortly after I bought it, but IIRC the orig would expire at 70k and I had already passed that by the time I got the letter. The letter came from Chrysler, not the second hand place I bought her.

I'm just worried because I've never dealt with a dealership before - all my stuff has been done by me and/or my husband on other cars we've had. Anything we can't do ourselves, we have a mechanic for who we have a relationship with and trust.

It may be covered under a Emission warranty.

Oh, Hooli, you are giving me some hope! I have GAD, so actually having something legit to worry about really sends me into the red!

A couple of questions, if you don't mind:

As I mentioned above, the mechanic I took her to first is putting the old part back on since the replacement didn't work out. With the new sensor giving fits, I drove her very carefully (under 2500-3k rpms) to him with no trouble. I will have to do the same with the old sensor back on the 11ish miles to the dealership - do you think she'll be okay? No strange noises last Fri and when she acted like she might buck, easing off the gas so she could settle and then gently reapplying pressure seemed okay - idled fine at stops and everything.

Also, any word on how to handle the dealership repair people? I've never done this before and don't want to get swindled just because I am a desperate girl!

Finally, do you know anything about the Goodwill Assistance? The lady at corp said she had to hear from Chrysler what the problem was before considering it. I mean, really, ANY info would be great.

THANK YOU SO, SO MUCH AGAIN!

IMHO, as long as you drive it easy, should be OK. Mention that you talked to Chrysler and you understand it MAY be covered under Goodwill Assistance if it is found that it is in fact a sensor problem. As long as you are not DEMANDING it may work to your advantage. Please be nice.

Don't worry! Though I am a Yankee, my mom is a true Southerner and taught me you catch more flies with honey than vinegar and you only get nasty when absolutely necessary!

Thanks again! (Really, I know I keep saying it, but I mean it! I am very grateful for you guys taking the time to try and help me!)

Ugh, trying a new MOPAR sensor - it's only about $25 more at the dealer than at my mechanic (who refunded my money since he wasn't able to help). Starting with that (PLEASE CROSS YOUR FINGERS, EYES AND TOES FOR ME!) since it is cheapest. If that doesn't work, they want $400 to tear down and look at the cam shaft - but they will apply the labour I've already paid towards that as well.

Also, since I'm at 78k, they're recommending doing the timing/water while it's broke down. My regular mechanics (that I couldn't start with because they weren't in the tow zone) quoted me $4-450 for timing/water and labour (!!! - amazing!), so I'll be doing that vs the $1000 at the dealer. Will also ask them about the cam shaft if the new sensor doesn't work out.

I can't help but wonder though, is it REALLY that common for after market sensors to go? I mean, I know I've read it here over and over and maybe it's just the pessimist in me looking to be prepared, but it seems weird since they're supposed to be up to the same standards...

Just looking for hope here, I guess. Thanks once more, everyone. <3

Unfortunately the motto: You get what you pay for!!!" Seems to work with some of the aftermarket sensors according to what has been post on this Forum. Hope it works out for you!!

Rock Auto seems to have the best price for the parts you'll need for the T belt fix.
