I have an 02 pt cruiser with a 2.4L engine 5 speed manual non turbo.Cruiser would not start so I ran diagnostic on it and got the ecm failer fault code pulled ecm and it looks as though the gel from inside is leaking out. What I'm wanting to know is I have been told that the manual transmission ecm's in the 02's do not need to be flashed when replaced is this true and if not can the original be fixed?

02 PT is SBEC controller. Will not need to be reprogrammed but will need to have the VIN, mileage and SKIM secret key transfered. So you will still need to take it to a dealer or an aftermarket shop that can do the above. My advice... take to the dealer an have it repaired there. The replacement PCM is covered by a 12month 12k mile warranty that includes labor.
