TCM and a ECM - Are they separate?
I am getting codes for a faulty TCM. I can't locate a separate TCM unite just the main ECM however I do see some sites that have teh TCM available and it looks like a different unit.
Does my 2002 PT Cruiser (Automatic) have a TCM and an ECM or is it all in one unit? Thanks, I'll be checking back frequently for a response so I can get one ordered to my VIN ASAP.

I beleive they were separate, but combined from '06 on - but I am not certain, sorry.

That's what I'm leaning towards as well. When I get home today I am going to take off the inner fender and see if I can locate it.
Part of me wants to order a TCM right now, the other part wants to make sure that its not a wiring, corrosion, etc issue - I am pretty sure I will be needing a TCM however...

The TCM is separate (at least in the early years and you can't swap different years. I can't exactly place where it is but I'll have a picture up in a minute to show it.

Cool, thanks I appreciate it. I know I need to get the same-same, I've found a few rebuilt units from multiple websites that set it up to your vin, car, etc. that I would probably go with but I want to get to it and do a bit more investigation before I pull the trigger.

Our 2008 had a problem with shifting, took it to the dealer and they reflashed the TCM & ECM. By that I would say the later models were separate also. BTW: it took care of the shifting problem, what the ECM had to do with it IDK!!
