Default Control Arm Bolt

Hi All,

I'm brand new to the PT Cruiser Forum and have a problem I need help with.

My wife's 2001 PT has the typical control arm bushing problems. This
past weekend I attempted to change the R/H side CA with the replacement
I bought on e-bay. Using my Haynes manual I got all the way to the last
bolt-the rear vertical CA bolt that threads upward into the frame. I
was able to loosen this bolt, but it wouldn't come out. I'm not sure
what's inside the frame, whether it's a welded anchor nut or a threaded
fitting on the frame itself, but the bolt would only spin. I ended up
running out of time and had to put the car back together. The bolt also
would not tighten up-not surprisingly. Any ideas on how to solve this?
Will I need to cut an access hole in the frame to grab the anchor nut
and weld a patch on after?

Secondly, the Haynes manual states that after removing the lower torque
strut for access to the forward CA pivot bolt, the engine torque struts
need to be adjusted. The process in the book calls for loosening up the
top torque strut too and using a jack under the bellhousing, tilt the
engine to a measurement of 4.72 inches measured from the rearmost bolt
of the top torque strut engine mount pad to the forward bolt on the
shock tower bracket-center to center. This measurement doesn't make any
sense, as I couldn't rotate the engine enough to get closer than about 5
3/4" without wrecking something, and now I worry that the engine isn't
mounted correct at all. Any help will be appreciated.
