Default Will 225 tires fit 2001 Cruiser

Can anyone tell me if a set of 225 55 R16's will fit my cruiser? My brother in law just offered me a set of snow tires for free. I think the larger tire will come in contact with the wheel well. He seems to think they should be OK. I currently have a set of 205 55 R16's on the car.

Thanks

I have run 225 50 R16's with no problem.

Various tire manufacturers web sites will give you comparisons of tyre sizes stating overall width and diameter.

I tried 225/60x16 and they would not fit. They hit the conical plate that holds the bottom of the spring on the strut. I couldn't even get the wheel mounted all the way to the hub.

I hope you have wider aftermarket rims cause with the 6" factory rims and running 225 you'll be lucky to not roll the tire off of the skinny factory rim.

Yes, they are 7" rims.

I believe I read at tirerack that 6-8" wheels are within range.

If you saw the 225 on a 6" wheel you would cringe. I had them on my '03 GT and was afraid to really get on the car so I got aftermarket (7.5") wheels. With the 6" rims the rim is really recessed in and the sidewalls stick out a lot. It's up to each person, but for me, I didn't feel safe.

Wish I had read your post earlier today!

Just had the 225's installed on the car. Unfortunately, I will have to return the car to the shop tomorrow as I have the same problem, the tire is rubbing against the conical.

Thanks for responding.

Re: 225 55 R16's:

In straight driving or when turning wheel? If its with straight driving I'd chew the heck out of the tire shop!

As I wrote, I couldn't fully mount my 225 60 16's with 16x7" wheels for even straight driving.
