Default Scratching my head over whining or scraping sound

Greetings all,

My 2005 GT (62k miles) has developed a fairly constant whining or scraping sound emanating from the engine compartment. It sounds like a bearing of some kind going bad. My initial guess is it's something having to do with one of the accessory drive belts, or (hopefully not) the timing belt or related parts.

Unlike the problem described in this post:

Upon Cold Start in Cold Weather, Loud Noise??

the noise I'm hearing is barely audible when cold, and gets louder as the engine warms up. The noise does vary with RPM.

There was a thread over on that suggested cam seals might be an issue. A quick search here didn't confirm that idea, nor could I find anything else other than the thread quoted above that discussed a similar problem.

I'm about to change out the accessory drive belts anyway. I'm trying to figure out if I should be planning on an (early?) timing belt change, or if there's some other common problem I might be overlooking.

The fleet:
'05 PT GT, 2.4T
'99 Neon R/T (x2, for now)
'94 Lebaron 3.0/A604
'91 Lebaron 2.5TI/A413
'91 Spirit R/T
'91 Daytona ES 3.0/A543
and a '98 Ram 1500 4x4 to tow 'em all around...

Noises are nearly impossible to describe or diagnose over the internet - but cam seals would be leaking, not noise.
Does it do it in neutral? (to rule out driveline).
Can you open the hood and try to pinpoint where it's coming from?
Belts usually quiet down as car warms up, but pulleys/tensioners don't.
