Default New here, 2002 hard top

Hello
I just picked up an 02 that I am going to give to my daughter.
Now for the interesting stuff, Nice clean car but The engine overheated (reason I got it for 600 bucks). I have loads of professional automotive experience. In looking around for an engine it looks like the 01 and 02 are interchangeable. The thing is the 03, 04, 05 etc have less mileage and are more plentiful. What is the differences in the engines..

Welcome, biggest problem is the difference in the sensors for the PCM.

And EGR went away after '02.

Here is how I see things, the 01 and 02 used engines are harder to find have more mileage and cost more.
Ya there is an electrical compatibility issue for sure. I see there is a computer which controls the transmission so it may not be an issue there.
Does anyone know who has installed a newer engine in a 01 or 02 maybe I can get the information there. I am not new to computer controls, modern efi . I spent 25 years working for GM as a drive-ability specialist. My engine is seized and has likely a hammered lower end. . I'm building this car for my 16 year old daughter so it has to be done right..
Love this forum thanks !!
