Post Problem starting | Will not downshift for passing gear

I have an '03 PT Cruiser, non-turbo. Somewhere around 123K miles

The check engine light is on but I don't remember the fault code. I'll get it tonight. Anyway, the code gave an error regarding the Throttle Position Sensor, which I replaced not even 6 months ago.

When it was acting up before, it was stumbling on takeoff, seemed to idle rough. This seemed to correct the problem back then.

Well now it's acting up again, but it's different. It doesn't want to start (it cranks for 3-4 seconds before it will run). I've not been the one driving it, but I was told that the engine would randomly rev up, like mabe it was jumped out of gear, i dunno, it hasn't done that to me when I drove it. When I drive it, I found that I will not shift down when you push the accelerator to the floor. Just stays where it's at.

I have replaced the ECM and the TPS (again) to no avail. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum.

In order to help you we need some questions asked. Hard starting; when was the last time the plugs and plug wires were changed? Won't shift down; when was the last time the transaxle was serviced (flushed) ? When the TPS sensor was replaced, was it a Chrysler/MOPAR part? After market sensors don't work very well, we found that out from numerous owners that used aftermarket Cam, Crank and 02 sensors that failed prematurely.

I don't know the answers to your questions. I bought the car when it had about 99K miles on it, now it has 119K. Told you wrong earlier on the original post.

It probably needs that done on it, but I'm probably getting ready to sell.

I just find it odd that all of these symptoms started at the same time.

Oh and as far as the replacement sensor, it is an aftermarket. Not sure what brand.

Well, unless you spend some money on it, the symptoms aren't going to go away. I would guess the original owner got rid of it because at 100K a major service to the tune of around $1200 was due so instead of putting out the cash, then got rid of it.
