Other causes -
water pump going bad
Clogged radiator
Head gasket.
How many miles? At about 10,000 need new timing belt and water pump.
Look at coolant and oil - clear or cloudy? Cloudy is a head gasket sign.
When cool, look take off radiator cap and look in for gunk buildup.
Also try replacing the radiator cap - cheap and can't hurt.

From what I've read and heard from different owners, if the PT overheats at highway speed and cools down when stopped, the problem should be a clogged radiator or blown headgasket. Just my $.02

That's just the opposite of overheating when stopped which is more likely the fan.

Have to agree with you this time. I would lean towards a bad headgasket and or warped head.

Well since it started with a leak and that was repaired, maybe its got an air pocket. Some times the simple things are missed. Especially when your not a trained tech.

I realize that this problem started with a leak, but it is possible that another problem has just popped up at a time that makes you lean towards the leak as being the culpret.

Check the lower radiator hose while the engine is cool. Work your way from one end to the other by squeezing it. Sometimes a soft spot will weaken in the hose and while hot and accelerating the water pump will increase the suction on the hose causing it to collapse and shut down the water flow. When you come to an idle, the water pump slows down allowing the hose to relax and letting the water/coolant flow normally again.

Please keep us informed.
