Question Removing timing belt cover hell ?

PT CRUISER 2.0 2002

After looking at the step by step instrutions for timing belt change (sticky) Everything was going ok until i removed support bracket bolts (18) but cannot get the support bracket out due to not enough room ?
I have tried supporting the car /engine all different ways

any advice would be appreciated

regards john

John,

Hopefully you have a 2.4 ltr engine and not the 2.0 as you stated. The instructions are for the 2.4 U.S.A. model cruiser. The 2.0 is made overseas and I believe is a diesel so things will be different.

Thanks for the reply

we are in uk.
The crusier is 1995cc petrol model dated 2002
we have tried lifting the engine to the extent that the car starts lifting
All bolts out of engine mounts etc.

Is the timing cover in 2 halfs as we cannot get it off ?

see pic attached

thanks

john

My repair manual covers the 2.0 and the 2.4 engines. On yours it says to remove the two lower and single upper timing belt cover bolts. So it sounds like you have a one piece cover.

On the 2.4 engine it says to remove the upper and lower timing belt fasteners and then remove the "covers" so we have two pieces.
