Default Clutch Life?

Over the last 2 months or so, my 2004 base model 5 speed seems to jerk a little when I take off or between shifts as I'm accelerating. It feels a little like I'm not giving it enough gas but I don't think I've changed my driving habits lately.

Could this be a slipping or worn clutch issue? I have no idea what to expect when the clutch starts to go south. What's the normal life of a reasonably driven clutch anyway? It's just a commuter car and I don't drive it roughly. I've driven it nearly 92,000 miles with no major issues and this is the first real unusual issue I've encountered.

Thanks for any replies!

Clutch life is 100% dependent on driving style. I've seen cars with almost 200k miles with the original clutch, and I've seen a Dodge Ram with 1400 miles and the clutch was already worn out (by abuse, not a defect).

You may start hearing noises when you press the clutch in if it's starting to go out. You may also notice it's harder to shift between gears, and you'll have less play in the clutch pedal.

I've never had a PT with a clutch but have had a few other cars, they were used when I got them but if I remember they were both in the mileage range that your at when they needed a clutch. Had a Mustang that went through the clutch faster but that was driven much harder than a typical daily driver.

Cool Re: Clutch Life?

Might not be the clutch.
Mine went out at 24K; but it was getting difficult to shift between 1st & 2nd.

Your symptoms sound more like you need plugs and wires than a clutch -
Clutch makes shifting without grinding harder, and revs may climb faster than speed if it's slipping.
If it were mine, I'd do plugs and wires first (can't hurt). Gap plugs 0.040
