Hi All, I've been messing around with my airbox, and at present have a 3" pvc intake hole where the stock snorkle was. It's working and sounding so much better than the stock set-up, I'm wondering if I'm missing something (i.e. really cold weather performance). I'm also wondering, given the set size hole going out of the airbox lid (with the white piece off), what would the max. effective intake hole size be? Would a 4" hole be overkill or almost there? Any thoughts or ideas?

Since the throttle body throat is a limiting factor, if you go too large on the intake it may actually be detrimental since you could lose the inertia effect if the flow velocity is too low.

Hi CTF, yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking. But what about the open cone filters? Since they're totally open, wouldn't that sort of be comparable to having the stock lid with a K&N drop-in hooked underneath, but with no airbox bottom at all? I know you wouldn't want to really do that because of sucking in all that engine heat right there, but wouldn't the air movement be similar by the time it gets to the throttle body?

Actually, I was thinking in terms of the pipe going from the filter box to the throttle body, since the stock tubing is about 3" in diameter. A smooth wall pipe with a cone filter works real well for increased airflow but I don't know how large a diameter you can go before it works against you.
