Interesting read, now the question, what would be a decent LARGER replacement for the '040' factory filter?
I've been using Mopar filters assuming they were decent filters, but after seeing the small filter size in that report for the '040' filter, maybe something larger is in order. Any suggestions?[:I] |

think about getting one of those relocator type things it hooks upto your stock gilter location, and alows you to install 2 filters anywhere in the car, limited by the length of the lines.

I am new here but wanted to chime in. I used a Viper oil filter on my 1998 Dodge Neon (DOHC). It has a larger diameter but the seals were the same. Is there a larger diameter filter for the Cruiser? I really don't want a taller filter.
Also, do any of guys use the valve or petcock in place of the drain plug? I saw it on a site (can't remember where). It cost about $20 or so. It sounds kind of neat but can it be accidentally opened from something hitting it (road debris)? Thanks for the info. Andy P.S. Here is the link for the valve http://www.cruiserbits.com/Shop/View...eIndexID=37744

patbluecruiser,
I have the valve that replaces the oil drain plug on my PT Turbo. Fits like a glove. The lever is in an L-shaped track. You have to push up and pull the lever to the side in order to allow the oil to drain. The lever is actually on the top of the plug, so no road debris can hit it. BTW, you can buy the drain valve from Moss Motors:www.cruiserbits.com Scott

Here's some oil filter stuff you might find interesting. My wife's '02 uses a Fram PH3614 which is the same thing as her 3.3L New Yorker used. However, on it I used a Fram PH43 which is about 50% larger. (had some in the garage) This is the short filter for 5.2 V8s in the old rear wheel drive 5th Avenues. The longer version brother, PH8A, was used on DCs back to at least 1960 and will screw on anywhere a PH43 will....if you have room. If you don't like Frams, these filters cross over to all major brands.
For her drain plug, I used the screw-in type that has a poppet valve like tire valves. You have to screw another piece on it to open it and that part has a 6" piece of hose to help aim the oil. For additional protection, there's a brass cap for it between changes. I got it at O'Reillys. And NO cracks about a 6" hose for aiming!!!
