Smile Got a mechanical question on coolant bottle leak:

Hey Everyone,

As I think most of you know, I can make most PT's look great but am not much for putting in any real wrench time myself unfortunately. Was just never too mechanically inclined beyond the very basics.

Anyways, I have developed a bit of a problem and could really use some advice from you guys on this one. It would seem to me that my car has developed a major water leak around the plastic reservoir tank. I am not sure exactly where as of yet but when you pour water directly into the tank I can hear it pouring right back out equally as much. My guess is either a crack in the tank, or a hose in the bottom has come off completely or went bad or something.

I am still kinda feeling pretty rough from coming off all the pain meds and so on so I haven't had much chance to really get in and look at everything up close, but was wandering if any of you might have any ideas, or thoughts on this one, If its the tank itself it doesn't look too hard to come out, but not exactly sure how it might come out.

Any thoughts, or help would be greatly appreciated as always.

Go easy, and I'll catch yall later.

You are saying that you hear the water coming out. Do you see it or is there a puddle on the ground under the vehicle?

The over flow has a hose running from the tank to the upper rad hose neck/housing.

SO if your pouring in coolant and the tank is leaking it is going on the ground.

When I changed the coolant in my 06, you open the petcock on the bottom of the radiator, and it will suck the fluid right out of the overflow tank as the radiator drains.

The FSM says to NOT open the overflow tank cap nor the radiator cap so the fluid will be evacuated from the over flow tank and this will verify the integrity of the tank and hose, ie no leaks.

Maybe your tank is bad, easy to remove and test.

PS hope your feeling better, your paint work is awesome.

Don,

Hope everything is going along smooth. I've never actually had to work on the overflow bottle but maybe these pics will help if yo need to take it out.

Hey Guys,

Thank you much for the help! I am hoping its just the reservoir as when I pour water in, it looks to be pouring straight out the bottom directly under where the bottle is, or so it looks. It won't hold any water at all so its got a major leak somewhere. It has actually been leaking some for a while now but since it spends 90% of its time in storage, or on a trailer I have kinda let it go a bit, but it has just finally gotten to the point of no return. Whatever the culprit, I recon it should be easy to find the way its leaking now.

Anyways, I thank you both again. I am gonna try n get out their maybe tomorrow and take the tank off and see whats what. Looks pretty easy I hope via that diagram.

You guys go easy, and I will let ya know what it looks like.
