Default P0068/CEL & a vacuum sucking sound.

Hey there.

I have a 2006 PT cruiser, recently got it back from the shop after having them fix a "thump" in the front end, and it popped a CEL (0068) on me. It was right out of the blue, ran rough all of a sudden and sounded almost like I'd blown something.

I checked the past threads here, and the info about the sensor or vacuum leak. I did hear a sucking noise, but about 5 inches up the intake manifold "pipe" from the IAC assembly area. The shop had been planning to pull my engine to replace my engine mounts to fix the thump (was not the problem, though that's yet another story), but could it be the intake manifold itself at fault?

This is the first time it's coded, and the CEL hasn't reoccured - I haven't heard the sucking sound of late either - but I'd still like to make sure it doesn't happen again.

From what you've described, it does sound like something was moved or dislodged when the shop was looking at the engine mounts. Start at the air filter and check all the connections up to the throttle body. You'll probably find a disconnected hose or part of the filter system. There's a vacuum line next to the IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor that's part of the air filter so make sure that's connected.
