Default Computer

I was driving my 02 cruiser and all of the sudden when I was braking it would grab hard and the engine would turn off and after a few seconds come back on. I parked it at my sisters and went to start it up and all the guages were jumping so I had to call my husband. He came out and was clueless. He disconnected the battery and and removed the computer. He noticed that the bottom connection was full of an oil substance. There was no oil or anything else around the outside. Is this normal? Does the computer have an oil base inside of it?

Welcome to the forum.

Your husband was clueless yet he disconnected the battery and took out the computer? Most people don't even know where the PT's battery is and would never take out the computer. I take it he's some sort of mechanic?

What happen to your PT is definitely not normal and could possibly be computer related but more diagnostics need to be made. As far as an oil base inside the computer, I don't think so but hopefully one of the mechanics on the forum an tell you more.

Sunshine, when my battery (the time before last, that is) went bad, due to heavy corrosion at the positive terminal, I went to start the PT and all the gagues started going all over the place. Maybe your problem is as simple as replacing the battery, cleaning the battery terminals, and spraying some battery protector on the battery clamps and posts.

That cured my PT's madness.
