Default Brakes

I guess I need to change my brake pads/disc's.
The right rear is really making a noise.
15,500 miles, I need to get a set of brakes that will last longer than 15,000 miles. any ideas?

Personally, I put Wagner Thermo Quiets on my wife's just to kill the brake dust. They ran about $60 front axle. But there's many more opinions out here.

This would be a good time to replace not just your pads but your discs also. Everyone has their own opinion as to which brand/type is the best. Check out the links/information below for various items available:

Rotors -
DBA http://www.dba.com.au/
Cryogenic http://www.cryogenicsofindiana.com/prod01.htm
Power Slots http://www.ptuning.com/html/discount...ubid=ptptenthu
EBC http://www.brakesrus.com/
Brembo: http://www.nopionline.com/

Pads -
Greenstuff http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brake...uff+brake+pads
Raybestos ceramic Pads part #PGD841QS
NAPA ceramic pads part# CMX7716.
top-shelf NAPA metallic pad is AE7716M
Wagner MX-841 is the top-shelf Wagner pad

How is it you seemingly need to replace pads at 15k? I have 42k and have mucho pad left. Ironically, I want my brakes to wear out so I can replace them with painted rotors & calipers!

Maybe you have a stuck caliper - which would be a warranty item. Doubtful if they will just give you pads under warranty, and would you really want them anyway? If the pads simply just disappeared that quickly, DO NOT let the dealer replace them with another crummy set. Go aftermarket with an independent mechanic.

Reports on pad life varies from owner to owner. Generally, most have had to replace their front pads by 20k. I would go Raybestos Ceramic Pads, part #PGD841QS, for the front (no/low dust too) and Stillen/Metal Matrix semi-metallic pads, http://www.ptcruisermart.com/, for the rear. Not cheap ($75 for the fronts and $55 for the rears), but performs a lot better than the OEM pads. Some local brake shops carry ARI semi-metallic pads (front and rear) and owners have reported excellent wear characteristics and low dust. My only concern with Wagner Thermo Quiet MX-841 (fronts) is that it is the OEM pad supplier (supposely the same MX-841 pads are OEM installed, but the composition may be different), but many are satisfied with replacing with those pads. EBC (fronts only) has had mixed reviews, some report excessive wear and dust while others say they are great. Moss Motors sells the Mintex HP pads (front and rear), you can do an internet search for owner reviews on those pads.

Let me cast another vote for the Raybestos Ceramic pads ($75 at PartsAmerica.Com) Not only are they good & wearing well, NO DUST! I now have over 65,000 miles on my PT, changed pads at about 25,000.[?]

My brake light was coming on when I turned a corner caused by low brake fluid. Since it's a closed system I figured I better have the brakes checked. Sure enough, pad thickness was down to 3/32" so I had them replaced and the rotors resurfaced. 33,000 miles on brake pads isn't great but not too bad. Of course brake life, like gas useage, may vary depending on your driving style.

That's what prompted me to change my pads - the light flickering every now & then. Original pads were about 1/2 worn - I guess I corner harder than you do

you might want to try
performancefriction.com.
I had pads (z carbon metallic)on my 79 bimmer. They lasted over 100K.
Too bad they don't have them anymore for my application (too old)I would buy them anytime again.
