Default Oil change trouble/major leak

Hello. Tried to do an oil change on an auto 2004 pt cruiser na. drained the old oil/took the old filter off. Put the new filter on, put oil in. Started it up, then noticed a huge puddle under the car. Engine started to seize and I shut it down. What could be the issue? Filter/plug is on tight. Oil cap is on tight. not sure what else to check. any help would be great. going to the store to get more oil now.

I once did the same thing (when I was young). When I took the old filter off, it left the rubber gasket/ring stuck to the hot metal of the filter holder. When I put the new filter on, that made two rubber rings and they don't screw on tight or it leaves a space somewhere and the oil comes flowing out.

Check that out to see if there's two gaskets.

thanks for the advice. talk about a double screw up. first o'rileys gave me the wrong oil filter, gave me one for a turbo, which is why i always pull my own parts. second there was still an old gasket on there we didnt see due to it being a little dark. thanks for the advice. all is well.

OK, glad you found the trouble.

By the way, you can use the Turbo filter on a non-turbo. It's the same size diameter just a little bit bigger in depth. Takes a little bit more oil to fill it up. Here's a thread that someone started on it.

Turbo oil filter on non turbo???

Bet you'll never change oil again without looking up to see if everything is clear. I don't.
