Beagledad,

From what I can gather in a search, the IAT sensor could stop your engine from starting. Do you know where the sensor is? It's a very delicate sensor that's pushed into the rubber hose between the air filter and throttle body. It could be unclipped from the electrical wires or somehow not even attached to the hose. The end that measures the actual air temperature is a tiny little thing that can break off very easy and disable the sensor.

I know where it is, your right about how fragile it is.I checked for continuity ok, check voltage max was 3.99. My wife's jeep compass has the same sensor (considering they put the pt as a truck for some reason) still not working.I looked over all the wiring nothing of concern . I am at a loss

Dad,

You say it turns over, just doesn't catch to start up? You have a couple things to look for, spark, fuel and sensors that send the signal to the computer (Camshaft/Crankshaft). Most of that would send a signal to throw a code. Take the negative battery cable off again, wit 10 minutes. Try starting again to see if it's the same code.

The timing belt along with the serpentine belt both have a tensioner that's supposed to keep just the right tension on the belt, so it shouldn't be too tight.

I'm sort of out of ideas for your code.

You have a five speed, did you try push starting to see if it will start and run?

Let me look through some of the diag procedures for this code. I'll report back shortly with some more ideas.

Well according to Chrysler, the only possible causes for this code are a short in the wiring, a bad sensor, or a bad PCM.

If you double and triple checked both the hot wiring and the ground wiring and you've swapped the sensor for a known working one, the problem may very well be a bad PCM, which would explain why the enine won't start.

Thanks Chris. I'm sure Beagledad will thank you but not be happy with your answer.
