Default pretty sure i jumped timing...

was driving home from mom's, was doing a constant 70 mph with cruise on in my PTGT 2.4t. has 85k miles, just rolled over. was on down slope of bridge when check engine light and oil light came on at same time, enging quit , and i rolled to a halt on the side of the road. did key dance as i learned on the forum *thanks guys * and found out i had a p0340( Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction ) and p0016(CRANKSHAFT/CAMSHAFT TIMING MISALIGNMENT ) tried to start it up but timing was off, so no go.. gave up after a couple seconds. wondering if i should tow it back to the dealer i bought it from 4 days ago and forcing them to get it fixed or taking it to one of my guys we've had work on our cars forever... any input? thoughts as to if it just jumped timing or broke belt? bueller?? bueller??

well thanks guys for any input

Drew

Drew,

Almost certainly your belt has broken. Why at only 85K, I don't know. I hate to say it but is there any chance the place you bought the car from rolled back the odometer. Hard to prove unless you can find the original owner or paper work that had higher mileage than when you bought it. I see now why you were quoting "Bueller".

You won't be taking it anywhere till the belt is replaced so go back to the dealer and raise cane that it was only 4 days ago you bought it. Any guarantee at all when you bought it?

hah guarantee? what a 15 percent parts and labor warranty that i signed thinking that the car was most certainly not a lemon as it drove perfect when i test drove it? grrr it pisses me off to an extreme to think that they are screwed me purposefully which i hope is not so... they dont even have a maintenance bay at that dealer, so i doubt they had the sense to roll back an odomter. im definitely gonna talk to em tomorrow as well as the guys fixing it and see how quick it can get done, and hopefully b*tch and moan till the dealer pays out a fix.. the tow only cost me 65 because i called a place extremely close to my parents house and the place fixing is also close. took some pics of it on the truck just in case, and im keeping the tow receipt for some sort of reimbursement possibility

edit: just ran carfax to verify, and its got a clean odometer, drive belts were replaced by Caruso Chrysler Jeep in jacksonville FL @ 21k miles in 2004 as well as Drive belt tensioner pulley replaced. no warnings at all on carfax concerning the car

well looks liek the estimate is 753 and i had them add on the water pump to the mix which is an extra 70 bucks.. so it takes 7 hours to do the timing belt, eh? oh well, had to get fixed. thankfully im getting a bit of help from the parents who know i need it

Yep, 5 to 7 hours for the belt and water pump. We usually tell everyone to replace the timing belt tensioner also plus the two drive belts. Everything is in the same area and if they haven't been changed before, it's a good time to do it.

At least have the mechanic look at the tensioner and drive belts for wear if you can't afford to do it now.
