Default Sensor testing

Could someone tell me how to test the camshaft and the crankshaft senor. 1 yr and 2 month ago my 2001 would not start either the camshaft or the crankshaft code came up. I was called away before fixing it. While away my girlfriend didnt keep the battery up so no code now. How do I test them?

I would think the only way would be to test them with a scanner. Are you saying that even if you put a new battery in, it won't start and you had a code before that? Maybe the new battery will turn the car over enough for the computer to get a new code when it won't start.
