Default Tranny or something else?

So, I recently joined the forum and learned alot in the first thread I posted.

Been following the Mod Bible over at PTC and it's great. However, some of the threads are pretty dated and some of the links lead to dead-ends.

I looked over at this thread - PTCrew.com - Learn it or Burn it.

Now, is that still the recommended way to go? Have the must-replace this/that changed at all?

Better yet, has anyone recently serviced/replaced their transmission? I'd like to know what others have gone with and about how much it came out to because I'm suspecting my transmission is on borrowed time.

I drive an 03 PT GT Auto. Reason why I THINK my tranny is slowly going is because while driving, just before the car shifts up (and the RPMs are a bit higher than when 'cruising') there seems to be a scratchy noise. It always and only happens when the car's RPMs are up to 2.6 or + just before shifting into next gear.

To alleviate that, I'll drive extra slow or simply utilize the autostick.

Oh and not to worry, no boosting in 4th I know!

The single best thing you can do is have the tranny flushed with a flushing machine every 50,000 miles (saome say 30,000) and filled ONLY with ATF +4.
IF you are going to rebuild the tranny, the PTCrew advice still holds.

As a matter of fact, that's exactly what I had planned to do today anyway.

The car has 111k miles on it, and I just received it recently (with 109k but drove it to CA from TX).

Just changed the oil yesterday to Mobile 1 Full Synthetic as well as replacing the oil filter with a K&N filter and changing the spark plugs as well as the wires.

Driving it this morning, it runs and idles MUCH smoother and is extremely responsive. Can't wait to see how it'll run once the tranny fluid is flushed out and replaced.

Btw, what fluid exactly would you recommend? Not trying to save money either, I rather put the good stuff in.

QSD already mentioned it and it's the ONLY fluid to use. ATF+4

Yeah it's what I got in it

I should've specified and said 'what brand'

What are the parts that tend to go out in the tranny (PT GT Auto specifically) so I can just focus on getting those replaced?

Decreased # of clutch packs in 4th = do NOT boost in OD, ever, ever, ever.
