Question ENGINE: is it serialized and tied to the VIN?

Does anyone know if the engine is serialized somewhere and tied to the VIN?

IF yes, WHERE would I find it?
and
Would it be a partial of the actual VIN?

I have a used PT that is supposed to have a USED engine from another wrecked PT.

Please advise.

Thanks all

i dont think that it is tied to the vin !! as back in middle east all new cars goes through weights and measures where they add new serial # to engine and more details in order to track any foul play (engine serial # is shown on the registration paperwork too and cant renew registration if missing from the engine !)

while in here i was told that the vin is technically to track the frame of the car !! and you can do whatever you like with anything else in the car !!

Yes engines are serialized to the vin of the vehicle. For example, say you had a vehicle with a stolen engine, the police could trace the number on the engine and it wouldn't match the vin and would come up stolen.

I have no idea where such numbers are located, and I'm not even sure such information is released to the public, specifically for that reason.
