Default Any benefit to advancing ignition timing?

On the naturally aspirated engines, is there any benefit to advancing the ignition timing. I know on my '95 Miata, it is spec'd at 10 deg BTDC, but when you advance the timing between 12 and 14 deg, you shift the peak torque to a lower RPM range. I was thinking of doing the same thing on the Cruiser as I never really rev the engine that high and it would be nice to have the useful torque in a lower RPM range. Anyone done this before? Of course it is certainly easier to do it on the older cars with distributors or cam angle/crank angle sensors. I'm guessing on the newer OBD II equipped cars this requires messing with ECU/PCM settings.

yeah, unfortunately you'll have to change the ECU to be able to advance or retard timing any. These cars PCMs (aka ecu) do everything timing wise, between advancing and retarding. You do have the ability to get a stage programmer like the DSP or xcal and use those to change, but thats pretty much it if I remember correctly
