Default 2001 pt cruiser sounds loud when stepping on gas

I am new here. I bought a used 2001 PT cruiser has over 175,000 miles on it, I have had it for 4 months, it runs pretty well for the most part. However I noticed when I give it gas, (I have to drive the highway to work every day) it seems to sounds really loud. Not the exhaust, it sounds like it is the engine. You don't really hear it on the outside of the car, just while you are sitting in it driving. The rpms stay at around 2 or 3.
When I let go of the gas the sound subsides.
I just got an oil change about a month and a half ago, I haven't checked it since. You would figure I would I work in an oil change place lol, but I don't think it is that.
The only other issue is the steering wheel shakes a little when I go above 60.

Any ideas what this might be, or is it normal?
Thank you so much for any help

Sage, Welcome to the Forum.
Steering Wheel shake could be tires, front end out of alignment, etc.

You might/probably have an after market intake system. All the aftermarket intakes make noise when you give it gas and go quiet when your foot is off the accelerator. The air rushing into the open filter and down the plastic or chrome inlet pipe to the throttle body will make that sound.

As Hooligan pointed out, alignment, out of balance tires or even worn out bushings will cause shaking in the front end. At 175,000 you should have the whole front end suspension gone over for excessive parts wearing.
