Unhappy Battery Change Causes Airbag Problem?

We have a 2004 Turbo Cruiser and recently the battery went dead. After replacing it the airbag light came on so we called the dealer. They made appointment to reset it for a few days later.

In the meantime we went to get it smogged but it wouldn't pass as the airbag light was on - the guy said drive it for about 100 miles and it would reset. (It hasn't)

At the dealer's appointment they said that it needs a new airbag module and was going to cost $430! We asked for the code and all they told us was output driver 1.

The airbag was fine until we got the new battery - something sounds very weird here. Any help?

Can't find anything in a fast search. Is the airbag light still on or did the dealer clear the code? Did you try retrieving the code yourself?

How to retrieve fault codes.

I had the airbag light coming on for longer than normal, and a mechanic told me it was the airbag clock spring. But the following day, all my instruments started acting up. It turned out that I simply needed a new battery. Once I put the new battery in--all the problems with lights disappeared.

Try unhooking your battery cables and re-attaching them. sometimes a battery problem can make the PT do silly things....
