Default Engine Warning Light 3rd Time - 04 GT

Hello everyone, this is my first post and I need a little help.
My 04 GT is in the shop for the third time for the same problem, (error code P1188)Turbo Overboost. When this happens the car surges at idle and on decelleration. PCM was replaced twice. This time there supposed to find out what's causing the module to go out, we will see! Has anyone else had this problem on the 04 GT?? If so, what was the cure? The only mods to the vehicle are BTG cat back dual exhaust and a K&N drop in filter. The first two occurences happened before the mods. Hope I get it back for the Block Party. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Haven't heard of it on any forum. I think it's "good" that the first 2 times were before you did exhaust, 'cause dealer would point at that for sure! Let us know resolution.

Thanks I'll post my finding from the dealer. I also posted this on the Turbo forum, I probably should have done that in the first place. Sorry for the duplication.

I have 03 turbo and I been having the same problem for over a year, no known fixes from Chrysler yet. My tech got tired of me coming in to have the trouble light reset. He told be to either disconnected the gnd wire to from the battery or disconnect the adapter plugs at the pcm to reset the light myself. Would be nice to know whatChrysler will be doing to cure the trouble.

Good Luck

If they cannot fix the problem I would make a case for invoking the Lemon Law. You should not have to put up with a chronicly malfuntioning car after spending your money on it.

I remember there was a recall for 03-04 models for a PCM weather seal around November 2003. I doubt, that's the cause of the problem, but it's just something comes to my mind in regards of PCM issues.

PAW;

I ended up invoking the Lemon Law when I had the car in for the fifth time. I now have a new replacement vehicle. Search my other postings for all the details. I suggest you do the same. I also posted a link for a Lemon Law attorney, they give free advise and if they take your case it's free for you, they get paid by DC when the case is won. E-mail me if you want to know more.

HI RD CHILI,
No lemon law in the Great White North (Canada or my province). Try talking to Chrysler service rep on the phone all they are telling me to do is to bring it back to the dealer and let them investigate further. The code doesn't to much to the performance of the vehicle, and if I reset it by unpluging the connetors at the PCM it doesn't reset the tranny and I don't have to go thru the retainning process. It usually takes a while before coming on again. I guess the PCM keeps track of the number of occurances before triggering it.

Paw;
Go to this link and read what 3BarBoost said to do. Have you or your dealer looked at this harness?
