Unhappy Oil Leak 

Hi All,
I have a 2004 pt cruiser with 116,000 miles that is spilling out oil from the engine. I seem to lose about a quart every few days. I've happened to notice that the oil doesn't pool in one spot under the engine, but is sort of spotty under the entire area under the engine, as if it's spilling from everywhere. I've been checking the oil level daily but I'm sure I'll have to get this fixed soon. If anyone has any idea where/why this oil is leaking PLEASE let me know. I'm hoping this will be a relatively easy/inexpensive repair....

Just take it somewhere (anywhere) that has a lift and they will check it for you. That's one of the things the lifts are for. Instead of us guessing, and that's what it would be since we can't see your engine, you would very quickly know exactly what your problem is.

Unless it's all over the bottom of the engine in which case they will have to power wash it off so they can hopefully see where it's coming from. You might have to stop by a second time, maybe the next day so they can spot where it's leaking from.

Usually oil leaks that severe come from main seals or cam seals.

But yes, you'll probably need to just take it in to get checked. They'll probably put some dye in the oil and have you come back in a day or two and use a UV light to pinpoint where the leak is coming from.

Since you have 116000 miles and if it is a seal of some sort it's most likely not going to be cheap, if you haven't done the timing belt and water pump you should combine it and do it all at once. Good luck

This will only work it if turns out to be a cam seal or front main seal. If it's the rear main, there's no easy way around it.
