Default 2nd Horn Installation

Before anybody gets too excited I know there have been previous threads concerning the lack of a second horn on PT's after 2003. In fact I started one of the discussions. I decided to followup on my own question and then add a second horn. First of all on my 09 there is only wiring for a single horn. I picked up a hi tone horn for the PT at Autozone yesterday for $15. After removing the right front wheel and opening up the splash shield I had easy access. I have enclosed some pics if anyone wants to do this him or herself. The new horn comes with 2 thin mounting brackets that need to be bent 90 degrees as shown. Using them together gives extra support. Mount as shown using a 10mm bolt. Add a couple of spade clips to the connections on the horn and mount as shown. You need to cut the existing horn wiring and splice in the new wires. I used shrink wrap tubing to cover all the connections and splices for weather proofing. Tidy the wiring back up with some black wire ties and it looks pretty close to factory. I now have a horn that sounds like a horn and not a Shrine clown car. Took about an hour to do.

Thanks for the write-up. If you don't mind I'm moving this posting to the tech section and then adding it to the HOW TO's section as a sticky so it will always be there for someone to access.

Works for me. Should have put it there in the first place. Hope it will be useful to anyone wanting to take on this project.

Havent really looked into yet but the wifes '06 is very loud. Even louder than my 04' AFTER i added the second horn.

Are the '06's in a different location or did they change the horn(s)?

My research found Chrysler went to a single horn in 03 and it's been that way ever since. Never could find an answer about when the wiring harness was changed but it doesn't matter it's easy to splice into the existing wires.

Thumbs up Re: 2nd Horn Installation

Nice job Merlin!
Exactly what I did on both PTs.
They now have real horns, that you can easily hear.

Folks all seriousness aside I want to pass on something I found while under the car. As you know most of the fender liners and splash panels are fastened to the car or each other with the crummy plastic push fasteners. I found several missing while doing the horn mod. Luckily I found the sizes I needed at the local Ace hardware store up the street. I suppose maybe they can loosen up and fall out but a couple of places look like they were never installed in the first place. Might be worth taking a look.
