Default dtc p0172 fuel

i haven't ever put on a new fuel pump - it's a 2001 pt w/ 180,000 I'm the one living in Mexico. So, just need some advise.
The mechanic changed some plugs and wires the light seems to be off right now and car is running ok.
So, do i go ahead and 'mule' in a new fuel pump complete system - Is there a fuel filter that I should change?
any help is always appreciated.

Your fuel pump (as least in the States) is in your gas tank, so you'll have to drop the tank to do the swap. I don't know if there is a filter to change.

If the plugs & wires corrected your problem, I wouldn't mess with replacing the fuel pump.
