Unhappy dead car

Went to Mc D's and went to start the car and no lights, silence. Nothing. I bought a new battery and the car started. Came home and in 5 hours went to start the car and again it is dead. Is it the alternator? fuse 18? battery? this is my only mode of trans.........

Sounds like the alternator, see if jump starts if it does than dies right after you take the cables off than chances are it's the alternator or you just happened to pick up a bad battery. If you have a battery charger you may be able to charge the battery enough to get you do the repair shop. I once strapped my battery jumper to my car and drove my old Toyota to the shop with the cables hooked to my old battery.

Get a jump start - then check to see if any lights are on - the multi-finction switch - that turns lights on - fails, and turns lights on & drains the battery.
If no lights, go to Sears or WalMart - or any place that checks you charging system for free....

You don't say what year yours is. On my '01 when my alternator died the light on the dash lit up. If you have a light and it is not lighting up at least when the engine is idling it might be something else. As someone said, go have someone test your charging system.

Doesn't really sound like the alternator to me. You just drove home, right? It's not like you were driving around with a dead alternator and draining the battery.

It sounds more like a draw somewhere. Like a light staying on or something.
