Default Clearing codes.

Can anyone tell me how to clear the codes from a 2002 PT cruiser?
I have the codes retrieved and will be replacing the egr today.
* thanks for the info on how to replace the egr*

After I am done I think that I will need to clear the codes out. If not that is great but if I do I am not sure how to.

Thanks,
Ed

Ed, welcome to the forum.

Any scanner can clear the codes but if you want to do it yourself, take the air filter off to get access to the battery. Take the negative battery cable off for about 5 minutes. That will clear any codes stored. While your there, check both cables for any corrosion that might be building up on the cable ends. Make sure both ends are good and tight and clean when you put it all back together.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping the battery disconnect would work. I do not have the code reader to clear it out that way.
I have a friend who is divorced and she does not have the $$ to pay mechanic labor so I try to do her maintenance and minor work for her.
This site is great and I appreciate your reply and the others who take the time to help everyone out here.

Lots of very friendly folks on the forum and always willing to help out. A thank you like you just posted goes a long way towards keeping the answers going out to owners with problems.

Step on your brake, too. It takes any residual power that hangs around to haunt you.

Don't forget one thing. After the battery is put back together, if the problem still exists that made the fault light come on in the first place, it won't be long before the lights comes back on with the fault.
