Question PCV valve diagnoses-2003 NA 2.4 PT

Sorry if this question has been asked before. I tested my PCV valve using these instructions from the tech manual. My original PCV valve failed the test, but the new one did also!

1. At idle, there is no vacuum at the PCV valve inlet. It feels like there might be a small amount of pressure-air blowing out.

2. Same situation at the end of the hose, since it's not leaking.

3. The old valve rattles. The new one seems to rattle more.

If this helps, I am changing the valve for the 90,000 mile service interval. The old valve had a little oil in it.

The engine sometimes has trouble maintaining a steady idle. It comes down slowly and hangs out at 1200 or dumps down to 500 for a few seconds. If I'm turning or anything else that puts extra load on the engine it will die if it's in one of those 500 RPM moods. It seems to have trouble when coming off of a downshift, like the computer can't handle using the engine to brake (It's a 5 spd).

Any ideas?

Thanks for the help.

Here's the instructions-they didn't attach the first time.

Two days and it hasn't died yet. Hopefully that cured it.

If your problem comes back, try taking off and cleaning or just replacing the IAC (Idle Air Controller).

Thanks for the tip Crewzin. Is aftermarket OK for the IAC?

On another thread I saw that about 100,000 miles is the time for a new water pump, timing belt, and other belts. If I let the timing belt go until it breaks will it toast the engine? Seems like I remember this being the case for Hondas.

1. I'd stick with MOPAR parts. Before buying, it can be taken off and cleaned.

2. The engine IS a Non-interference type in the PT which means the valves can't hit the piston tops and cause serious internal damage BUT the opposing valves can hit each other when the belt breaks especially if your at high speed.
