Power steering sensor switch. Not expensive, easy to get to and change BUT a very messy job. Fluid comes out faster than you can replace the switch. You need to have extra ATF+4 steering fluid to replace what goes all over the place (you and the ground).

Ric,

You can turn the engine (fault) light off and clear the computer by taking off the negative battery cable off for about 5 minutes.

P.S. Spent 12 years in Harrogate. Wife is British and son born over there. Consider it my second home. Cheers.

Yes, but If the fault at the switch is real, it will come right back.

I'm not a mechanic but I would say your safe to drive it for a few days. Second, if you replace the switch and take the negative battery cable off for a few minutes to clear the code, it shouldn't come back on.

CREWZIN

I've recently changed my battery. Yep, engine light came on. I 've been told by a mechanic that it's the power steering pressure switch (P0551)........................nope, they are wrong. Checked myself..............it's CODE 1684 "battery diconnected within the last 50 starts." Tried battery disconnect, key manipulation, and several resets. However, light returns. And, when I check for a problem, all codes show "no malfunctions." Any suggestions for a premanent reset solution?
