Exclamation 2001 PT Cruiser Transmission blow

Hello PT-Cruiser friends,
I am having a slight challenge. 80 miles in our 500 mile road trip back home the transmission gave up. Going up a grade the cruiser kept trusting forward, jumping gears, very high RPM and loosing all power (not fun when you are going UP a grade.)
So now we are stuck in a dinky town and our PT will be towed back to where we came from. There we will get an assessment and see what it will cost to fix.
Does any of you have any experience with a challenged transmission. Any idea of the costs of repair? Our PT is from 2001, has 120K miles and is in great condition)
Would very much appreciate your feedback!

Thanks,

Niels

You're probably looking at about $2k more or less. It just depends on where you take it. Obviously you'll have to pay for either a replacement or a repair plus labor. I'm sorry to hear about the trouble your having and good luck.

At 120K miles, has all the required maintenance been done? Tranny flushed, timing belt and water pump replaced?

Did the engine light come on? If it did, the fault codes that you can retrieve may help in the diagnostics.

Welcome.
Have you had the timing belt replaced?
If not, that, plus the cost of getting your trans fixed can cost more than what the car is worth.
Timing belt needs to be changed at around 100,000 miles, or you risk being stranded again....

Engine light code? A camshaft sensor will make the car act weird. Since you stuck and not home your not in a good bargaining position. If you were home you could most likely pick up a good used tranny on the cheap and either install it yourself or get a trusted mechanic to do it.

Good luck
