Default another pt cruiser with issues.

i got a late 02 pt cruiser. had blown head gasket. put new head along with new head gasket and all other gaskets needed, new head bolts, all back together.the timing belt was installed and all timing marks lined up correctly according to every written and pictured article i could find.accidentally broke the map sensor, got a new one (borg warner). car will not run just sits and spins and "tries" to catch but wont, if i mess with it long enough i might get it to crank and run but it wont idle. also while its spinning and not running it will backfire. that suggests to me its something with the timing but i have re-checked it 5 times.. no codes coming up except an 02 sensor which wont cause it not to run or backfire.. any ideas? im so frustrated with this car right now . i could easily sit back and watch it burn.over the past week i have rechecked everything since its a non interference motor i tried all kinds of combinations with the timing marks still no good. new plugs. coil is firing. fuel pressure is good. i really am at a loss i dont know what else to do i have been working on cars since i could pick up tools.. this is a first. it brings up absolutely no codes except for the 02 bank 1 sensor 1 code. anyone else ever ran into this problem?. also put radiator under 20psi of pressure and did not leak down over 6 hours. ran a compression check all cylinders above 80 psi whish isnt great but it should still run, after all it was running before.car has 150k give or take. new plugs. change cam sensor and crank sensor from another running and driving pt cruiser still no change. its absolutely frustrating.

Take a picture of the cam gears and post them when you have your engine set at TDC.

from what i understand the gears should be letters up as if you were reading them and the line marks in the gears where they meet the exhaust should be half a notch below the intake. ive tried them that way and with them lined up with eachother perfectly. neither way works. but i post some pics as soon as i can get them

80 psi is really low, that would indicate the problem.

Your timing looks fine.

When you put the timing belt sprocket back on, did you make sure the key that sits between the crank shaft and sprocket is there?

never took that sprocket off,was no need to . it just really acts like its 1 tooth off or something . . and as far as compression it was running with this compression before ,this is not my car and have worked on it for the person several times. its just crazy frustrating .

now i have a question. if #1 cylinder is at TDC.. that mean #1 piston is at top and is first to fire considering the firing order is 1-3-4-2 .. now when i look at my cams when on tdc #4 is going to be the first to fire.. does that make sense to anyone? it was always my understanding that it should be #1..

According to the service manual.
Quote:
Compression Pressure : 1172-1551 kPa or 170-225 psi
Maximum variation is 25%

(9) Compression should not be less than 689 kPa (100 psi) and not vary more than 25 percent from cylinder
to cylinder.

If you're sure you have fuel and spark. Drop a tea spool of oil into each cylinder to bump up the compression and try to start again.
