Default need help with fuses!!

Husband put in a new battery... and hooked it up backwards. puff of smoke later and after a search on here... i am TRYING to replace the IOD fuse!!

I already read the thread on how to replace it... BUT the stupid thing is NOT cooperating... AT ALL. plus it doesn't help i am out there in 14 degree weather trying to pry it out!! AAACCCKKK!!!!!

Any tips before i freeze my fingers off??

Also, the parts place set me up with a fuse for the alternator... but where do i find that? i looked at the diagrams, but i don't see alternator listed.

i am NOT a mechanic in any way, shape or form... but i gotta have my car!

HELP!!!

Maybe this will help with the IOD fuse:

How to remove PT Cruiser IOD Fuse under the hood? - Yahoo! Answers

As far as the fuse for the alternator, there's isn't a particular fuse in the fuse box either in the interior or engine compartment but according to the Haynes manual charging system diagram, you do have a fusible link in the line from the alternator to the engine starter motor.

Hey, can I put down in my resume' that I helped out a Rocket Signtist with a problem or two?

Yeah... i read that and the post about using a small screwdriver to pry it out... but i still can't get it out! it almost feels like i'm about to break the clip!

"fusible link in the line from the alternator to the engine starter motor. "

i figured there must be something somewhere cuz the guy at the parts place looked it up and sold me lil red ones. i will go look at the manuel to see if i can figure out what you are talking about.

meanwhile... back outside to try to pop that thing out before its completely dark!!

It's a small possibility that you fried/melted/fused the IOD when the battery was hooked up wrong. Just a guess because I'm not a mechanic either.

the clip doesn't look burnt in any way. i just cannot get it out to check the fuse in it! while i understand the idea of having it the way it is, so you can pull up the fuse while the car is stored, but geeeesh!! i'm about ready to take a needle nose pliers and yank the stupid thing out like a bad tooth!!!

ok for anyone trying to figure this out... the clip itself does NOT come out!!

get the whole clip UP.. then flip from left to right ONLY the middle, that has the rectangular opening where you can see the 20. Then use the screwdriver tip to pull the fuse itself up enough to be able to grab it with your fingers.

it was fried... so i put a new one in. its getting to dark to do much else and my fingers are froze. will try to hook up the battery charger and see what happens.

then i suppose i will have to try to find that other fuse.

thanks!

I had a fight with that IOD fuse also..the fuse won! There has to be an easy way...just finding that way is the trick! I quit before I broke it, mine is not open....I sure would like to know how to get it out, it will be open one day..you know..that Murphy guy and all?

Seriously... do NOT try to pull the whole clip OUT. it won't go.

the lil thingies that stick up on the front and back of it, which makes you think you should squeeze them to pull out... don't work that way!!

pull the WHOLE THING UP so its like 3/8" or so taller than the rest.

then flip from left to right ONLY the middle... not those clips - they don't move. mine flipped open really easy once i got the whole thing lifted up high enough.

Now i have power to the locks, radio, wiper, dome light... but the battery light it still on. Now to figure out the fusible thingie.

i am such a girl... hahahahah
