Default 02 engine swap

My wife has a 02 PT. We found a engine late summer with 40,000 miles from a 03 at a body shop that takes 2 vehicles and makes 1. I asked if this would be the same as the 02 and they said it should. Some day I think I may be or should be scared of that word!!! I am in process tearing motor apart to change timing belt, that is when I see the other engine is not with EGR. Just being silly here, but could a guy bore a hole in the head to make it work? Bolt holes are there for egr, but no hole.

You should be able to do that . I swapped a 2002 2.0 motor into my 1996 Neon , same thing had to drill & tap holes for EGR on the later one .

Thanks cudaguy. I have been looking it over and thank it is doable. It already has the bolt holes with threads, just no hole for exhaust to come out.
