Default No power steering.

So this last Saturday I'm running around in my wife's PT. It's a 01 base. It's about 20 degrees out side and we had about 4 inches of snow. I'm on my way home and I notice that the steering wheel is INCREDIBLY stiff. The PT is pointed straight a head and I've only got about a one to two degree rotation from the steering wheel. I had to do a slow 3 to 4 point turn to get it into the driveway. Fluid level is good, so I'm thinking it's hopefully one of three things.

Pump went bad.
Belt broke.
Something with the steering column.

Anyone have a similar experience? I haven't had a chance to look into it and hope to do some work on it this weekend before the snow gets here. Any thoughts?

Sigh, not sure which would be worse to get at, the pump of the belt. Gotta get to the belt to get to the pump. Wish I had a garage I could get it into. Maybe I'll luck out and I can get the BII running and move it out of the way. I hate a single car garage.

Might as well change the belt also while you are in there, check your serpentine belt also.

I purchased new belts this summer, just never got around to it. I'm thinking I might just go ahead and do the timing belt and water pump also, since I'm in the neighborhood.

Worth thinking about. Could get really crazy and finally replace the lower control arm bushing too. Most likely will stop at the pump. I still haven't looked at it yet, so I'm holding out hope that it's just a belt.

Well, I need a new tensor pulley. I'm trying to avoid the purchase of the whole thing, just the pulley. The bearings are frozen. Not sure if that happened before or after the plastic shroud burned up in the lower pulley for the power steering. Any idea of where just to get the pulley?

Also, how in the world are you suppose to get a wrench on the top alternator bolt to loosen it so I can put a new belt on?
